New Palgrave Series in Fandom and the Humanities

New Palgrave Series in Fandom and the Humanities Fandom and the Humanities is a book series that considers the impact that the multidisciplinary field of fan studies has on traditional humanities subjects, such as literature, philosophy, art, theatre, history, and politics. Due to the emergence of Web 2.0 in the twenty-first century, and its emphasis on participation, affective fandom has become a fecund field of study that integrates cultural studies and media technology as a means of examining the way in which fans affirm participatory rights as they operate as consumers of media and culture. This book series will consider the ways in which fan studies opens up new avenues for using this intersection of media, cultural, and reception studies as not only a means of approaching contemporary cultural phenomenon, but as a methodology that rethinks the conditions of that generates new productions of thought, art, theatre, and literature. In addition to offering innovative new approaches to contemporary culture, this series examines the ways in which media theory can be used to understand how fandom has shaped the history of the humanities. Fandom and the Humanities welcomes a diverse set of methodological approaches, including Marxism, race theory, gender studies, the history of print, performance, and philosophy. As well as new theorizations of humanities disciplines, suitable for further academic study, books in this series will also present the new pedagogies that fan studies facilitates. At this time, we are soliciting book proposals that, upon approval of the series, would be submitted to Palgrave MacMillan for peer review in 2019 for publication in 2020. Please send enquiries to LGeddes@adelphi.edu, with a one-page synopsis of the book's argument and a short author biography and a timeline for the project.
